INEC declares Osun vote “inconclusive”

INEC cited the 353-vote margin between the two highest contenders PDP and APC being less the 3,498 votes expected from seven polling units where it slated September 27 for a rerun.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the governorship election in Osun state “inconclusive” after a thin margin between scores for two main contenders.

APC scored 254,345 votes, behind PDP’s 254,698 votes—a margin of 353 votes.

INEC declared voting cancelled in some areas of the state, leaving more than 3,000 votes discounted from the final tally.

It says the new date for re-runs in areas where voting was cancelled is now Thursday, September 27, 2018.

A total 47,843 votes were rejected.

How the numbers stand in Osun

INEC’s Chief Returning Officer in Osun State, Joseph Adeola Fuwape, said the electoral body took that decision to enable a rerun election in polling units where results were voided on Saturday as a result of reported violence.

He said the number of cancelled votes (over 3,000) were more than the margin between the leading two parties.

He said the supplementary election will hold in Osun state on Thursday, September 27 to determine the final winner of the gubernatorial poll.

As at Sunday afternoon, Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore came third with 128,049 votes.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate came fourth with 49, 742.
