A group in Southwestern Nigeria, Yoruba Youth Forum (YYF) has warned the Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka and the Chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stop peddling lies against the former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The group described their recent attacks on the former president as ‘relentless attacks’ which showed that Obasanjo remains a threat to their selfish interet.
The group in a press release signed by its Chairman, Olusegun Abiodun Bolarinwa and made available to journalists in Ibadan, stated that frequent attacks by both Soyinka and Tinubu on Obasanjo have shown that both of them still see him as a threat to achieving their selfish agendas.
“We’re aware that our Nobel laureate is still looking for a kind of relevance that requires him to descend so low to the extent of peddling lies against Chief Obasanjo. His recent utterances are devoid of any fact but one with laced with sentiments.”
It added: "Even his recent book is full of lies and many inaccurate information about the person of Chief Obasanjo, and full of crass envy and venom. The book is not only a figment of the imagination of Soyinka, but lacks substance in its entirety.”
"Soyinka and Tinubu’s attack on Obasanjo are purely for self glorification and perhaps a means of showing a perceived grudge and settling a personal vendetta with a man whose records had remained unsurpassed by his contemporaries. We can interpret these attacks on Obasanjo as deep seethed prejudice, which Yoruba’s call ‘ilara’.
