The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) today commenced the repair work on the damaged runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
The agency has therefore notified air travellers and the general public about the “palliative repair work” ahead of the expected influx of passengers as the yuletide festivities approach.
General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu in a statement explained that the first phase of the repair work will commence today to 21st December 2017 while the second phase will be from the 27th December 2017, to 4th January, 2018.
The agency had earlier announced that the planned repair work would reduce operational hours at the airport.
Yakubu however explained that there will be skeletal operations at the airport while the work is ongoing as the Runway will open for operations from 7: 00 am to 3 p.m local time on the proposed dates.
“This is to enable the contractor have ample day-light working hours in order to obtain stable and even Runway surface, while also completing the work within the stipulated timeframe”, she added.
In line with Standards and Recommended Practices, she said the authority has requested the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to issue a Notice To Air Men (NOTAM) in this regard.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this action might cause our high esteemed customers,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Authority has reviewed and launched its service charter which is a level agreement which ensures that standards are upheld and sustained whilst providing an opportunity to customers to report any service failure within the value chain.
Managing director of the Authority, Saleh Dunoma, who was represented by the Authority’s Director of Engineering Services, Nurudeen Daura, at the launch in Lagos, said FAAN is a customer-centric organization totally committed to delivering quality services to her esteemed customers.
