Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has pegged an annual revenue target of N10 billion to newly constituted chairman and members of the state internal revenue board.
Al-Makura who give the target yesterday in Lafia during the inauguration of the board members said that the state is endowed with abundant resources that if properly harnessed will make the state self-reliant in terms of revenue generation. This is more so considering the strategic location of Nasarawa state to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
The governor said that modern government cannot thrive without adequate revenue generation. However, the hitherto management of the board was not properly constituted to support government towards the realisation of the desired revenue target.
Al-Makura explained that the chairman and members were carefully chosen with due recourse to their professional competence, commitment, hard work and financial discipline. These values have endeared them to government for this challenging state assignment, adding, “Considering the confidence government repose in you, therefore, we have decided to peg an annual revenue target of N10 billion in the beginning and N20 billion in the long run.”
Al-Makura urged the new management to synergise with appropriate Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) such as; Ministries of Lands and Physical Planning, Commerce, Industry and Co-operatives, Agriculture, Urban Development Board and other agencies to explore available options for revenue generation.
