A ghastly auto crash that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway yesterday claimed the life of four persons, including a three-year-old boy.
The accident, which occurred about 7:00a.m. on the Kara bridge, also left the mother of the boy and two others severely injured.
As confirmed by the General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr Adeshina Tiamiyu, the boy and his mother were being conveyed on a commercial motorcycle when they were knocked down by a truck carrying a long container.
The deceased, his mother and the rider fell into the shallow river below the bridge. While the rider of the motorcycle sustained a minor injury, the woman lost one of her legs in the process.
Tiamiyu told City News that the head of the containerized truck had detached from its body while moving on the bridge. The truck then rammed into the motorcycle, while the detached head plunged into the Isheri-Olofin river.
“Unfortunately, a three-year-old boy on the motorcycle lost his life, while his mother had a serious leg fracture. The truck head was recovered from the river with the aid of a heavy duty crane, with support from local divers. Three adult males were extricated and recovered from the truck head and handed over to FRSC officials, who moved them to the morgue,” he said.
