Members of the Sisters Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) says 287 women, 197 children and 23 pregnant women were killed in Zaria by the army between December 12 and 14, 2015.
Addressing a press conference yesterday in Kaduna, Jummai Karofi, who spoke on behalf of the forum, said 39 families were wiped out completely during the period.
She said: “Hundreds of families were left with the devastating effects and spasms that come with the act of cowardice displayed by the army in the attack. Hundreds of innocent women and children were killed in the most brutal manner one could ever imagine as the soldiers squashed open the heads of some children, threw pregnant women down from story buildings, molested some by cutting off their breasts with bayonets and hitting them on the private parts with sharp objects while some were even raped, burnt alive and buried in mass graves along with men.
She decried the continued detention of the leader of the movement, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, despite court orders admitting him to bail.
She said IMN members would never relent in calling for the unconditional release of their leader and all other members in illegal detention.
