Yuguda seeks FG’s support on Bauchi Greater Water works

Yuguda solicited the assistance while receiving borehole drilling equipment and other materials donated by the Japanese government under a grant-in aid programme to Nigeria.
He said that the state has a daily water demand of over 150 million gallons while the state currently generates only 10 million gallons from the Gubi dam.
“We are currently witnessing an upsurge in the population of the people in the state mainly due to the crisis in states around us and this has put a lot of pressure on infrastructures in the state especially water treatment and supply.” he said.
He said that the federal government in its 2008 budget made appropriation for the water works but that today the project has left federal government attention thereby compounding the problem of access to water in the state.
He said that the state was prepared to enter into partnership with the federal government as well as international donor agencies in the provision of water treatment plants and dams to alleviate the problems associated with water treatment and supply in the state.
He said that the state was seeking ways of utilising the huge underground water deposit in the state has in abundance.
He said that his administration has pursued the construction and rehabilitation of motorized boreholes and broken down hand pumps.
According to him “to demonstrate the seriousness of the government, within the first 100 days in office, the government awarded contracts for the construction of water supply schemes in 28 hospitals, 54 schools and 3 towns (Bogoro, Kari and Gololo).
