The Coalition of Jos Youth Associations consisting of 19 groups has accused the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch of deliberate attempt to blackmail the Muslim communities close to the university.

The Coalition in a statement by signed by Convener, Barr Buhari Ibrahim of Jos Concerned Patriots, Secretary, Comrade Abdul’Aziz Tibibi of Hausa/Fulani Youth Development Forum and 17 others said the assertions of ASUU of University of Jos were nothing but fabricated, malicious and baseless.

It recalled that recently ASUU, University of Jos branch in World Press Conference claimed that the immediate communities of Anguwan Rogo, Anguwan Rimi, Kwanan Shagari, Gangare at the slightest security breach in Jos, would unleash mayhem and terror on staff and students and destroy the University of Jos’ property.

The Coalition added that it is unfortunate that such blatant lies filled with malice and sheer hatred transcends from a supposed body of academics that are expected to inculcate knowledge, truth, peace, good character and discipline in their students and the society at large.

They said, “We members of Anguwan Rogo, Anguwan Rimi, Kwanan Shagari, Gangare And Bauchi Road communities read with shock and great disappointment the contents of a purported world press conference addressed by one Dr. Maigoro L. Lazarus, Chairperson of ASUU University of Jos Branch which contained fabricated, malicious, and baseless allegations against the good people of the communities.”

On the alleged attack of students in the village hostels of the UniJos on 28th September, 2018, the coalition said, “we make bold to say that the Maigoro led ASUU do not know the environmental terrain of the University as Anguwan Rogo Community is not in any way close to the village hostel.”

“ASUU, University of Jos should please know that the village hostel of the University is directly opposite Obel Community along Farin Gada Road and adjacent Rusau Village. Why should ASUU decide to close its eyes against these facts and try to paint Anguwan Rogo black out of sheer hatred?”
