The newly established Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency YSCHMA has begun engaging traditional rulers towards achieving Universal Health Care Coverage in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Babagana Tijjani, has said the traditional rulers would support the agency in social mobilisation and enlightenment about the scheme.
In his remarks during advocacy visit to the Emir of Fika, Muhammad Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa, the Executive Secretary said the agency would complement government’s efforts in providing basic health care to the people.
According to him, the system, when it fully commences, would enable the poor and vulnerable groups, physically challenged persons, pregnant women, children under 5 and aged people to enjoy free access to health care services.
The Emir of Fika said the establishment of YSCHMA was timely as the current COVID-19 pandemic had exposed many weaknesses in the global health system.
The monarch advised the management of the agency to look inwards and the activities of similar agencies across the country as well as plan ahead.
