Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni on Thursday inaugurated a Task Force for the Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Reconstruction of people and structures affected by the insurgency.
In his remarks at the inauguration ceremony, Buni noted that the setting up of the committee became necessary taking into account the lives and huge number of properties lost during the Boko Haram crisis in the North East.
Represented by the deputy governor, Idi Barde Gubana, Buni pledged for the return of normalcy by reconstructing public buildings and providing essential services to enable citizens pursue their legitimate goals.
He stressed that the major challenge ahead of the committee is the restoration of social services such as uninterrupted health care system, water supply and provisions of means of livelihood to the IDPs who returned to their original destination.
He added that the task force is an overarching body charged with the responsibility of coordinating and giving policy direction on humanitarian intervention in the state.
The Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana is the Chairman of the Task Force, with the Executive Secretary, SEMA as Secretary, while the Speaker House of Assembly, Ahmed Lawan Mirwa, Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, Head of Service, Muhammed Nura and Chief of Staff, Abdullahi Yusuf Gashua are to serve as members.
The representative of IDPs Alhaji Muktar Tijjani commended the governor for constituting the committee towards bettering the lives of IDPs in the state.
