The Yobe State government has received additional 216 Libyan deportees from the Port Harcourt camp and handed 33 Nigeriens to the Nigeria Immigration Service for onward repatriation to Niger Republic.
The state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, who spoke to newsmen at the deportees’ transit camp in Damaturu yesterday, said the Nigeriens were identified after careful screening by officials of the Immigration Service.
He said all the 216 deportees were screened by the security team coordinated by the state repatriation committee.
The Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service in the state, Abdulfatah Adamu, said the Nigeriens were separated using accurate knowledge of the Service.
He said they would deliver all the 33 deportees to where they can guarantee their movement to their regions in Niger Republic.
The Permanent Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Alhaji Musa Jidawa, commended security agents for working in synergy to safeguard the returnees and thanked Governor Ibrahim Gaidam for providing logistics to evacuate the returnees from Port Harcourt.
