The Yobe State government has inaugurated the board of the Managing Conflicts in Northeast Nigeria (MCN) Programme .
The Secretary to the State government Baba Mallam Wali, who inaugurated the advisory board, said it was part of its commitment to ensure ownership and sustainability of programs and supports instituted by the organization.
In his welcome address, the MCN state team leader Abdulkadir Sambo said the programme has come a long way in engaging with the state in the strengthening the capacity of institutions dealing with local level conflict.
He said the aim was to enable them to effectively manage such conflicts.
Sambo noted that the Programme has worked to improve capacities of both formal and non-formal security structures such as the police, NSCDC, local vigilante and civil society organization on conflict management, mediation, reconciliation and engagements against sexual and gender based violence.
The National Programme Manager, Professor Mohammed Tabiu, SAN, highlighted the activities of the programme, whch he said was being funded by the European Union, and implemented by the British Council in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe State.
In his address, the Secretary to the State Government Baba Mallam Wali called on members of the advisory board to justify the confidence reposed on them as their choice was made based on their individual track record of hard work and commitment to the service.
He said: “Your appointment into this board was approved the executive governor of Yobe State Mai Mala Buni based on the records of your hard work and dedication to the services”
Members included Barr Baba Dala, Chairman, Abubakar Garba Iliya Vice Chairman, Barr Saleh Samanja, Justice I. W. Jauro, Maisanda Lawan Waziri, Buba I. Kalallawa, Garba Iliya and Hauwa B. Abubakar Bah.
The Chairman of the board, Barr. Baba Dala called on members to see the task as an effort to support the state government in its quest to provide a level playing ground for development to thrive.
