Residents of Yimitu in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) have appealed to the authorities to provide potable water in the community.
The village head, Dauda Hassan, said residents lacked potable water despite various interventions by a corps member and past administrations.
Dauda Atadanyigbe, who spoke on behalf of the chief said the generator set used in powering the only borehole provided by the government was faulty as such they were at the mercy of private borehole owners whom he said sold water at exorbitant price.
He said another borehole constructed by a corps member, last year, only worked for few months thereby compounding their plight.
He said private borehole owners sold 30 litres of water for N30, adding that not all people in the community could afford the amount.
“We are mostly farmers,” he explained adding that residents consider it tasking to pay that much on water. He said some people in the community are forced to rely on local wells.
“Our roads are also bad. You are able to come here today with some ease only because of our joint effort to give the road a face-lift,” Sarah Matthew, another resident said.
Atadanyigbe said the community’s youths always engaged in communal services in a bid to make lives better for everyone.
He said they contracted trucks to bring crushed bricks and sand from construction sites, and used hand pan and shovel to spread it on the bad portions of the road.
He said there was no government school in the community and residents who could not allow their children trek to Waru had to get N5, 000 per term in some of the private schools in the community as transport.
The residents therefore appealed to the government to consider their plight and better their lives.
