Yaupe residents worry over rise in goiter

According to one of the residents, Asabe Danjuma, who is the wife of the village head, the infection which has been affecting mainly children had left many with swollen faces. They add that the condition has become rampant in the community for a while and if left unchecked by medical personnel could lead to a pandemic.
She stated that the symptom of the infection included sore throat and high body temperature which usually culminates into fever.
“We always go to the primary healthcare centre but they only give us paracetamol which has not helped much, so we stopped complaining about the infection to the health officials at the healthcare centre,’’ she said.
She added that the locals resolved to rub mud on the affected region on the face of sick children. This infection, she added, could last more than two weeks on the children.
Another resident, who did not want to be named, berated the poor state of the primary healthcare centre in the community.
The resident, who described it as a ghost of its former self, said it is short staffed and without the necessary drugs and professional healthcare personnel.
When Aso Chronicle visited the primary healthcare centre, the crew saw a relatively small building with what seems to be a consulting room and about three other rooms. There was no one on ground to interact with though it was open throughout the few minutes spent at the centre.
The residents however appealed to the area council authorities to assist with quality healthcare services so as to combat the health challenges of the community.
