Sokoto State Governor Aminu waziri Tambuwal has been certified as a champion of educational development by a delegation from the World Bank, Federal Ministry of Education and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The accolade was disclosed by the Task Team leader, Dina Abu Ghaida during a courtesy visit to Tambuwal yesterday in Sokoto.
Ghaida praised Tambuwal for the commitment of his administration to the development of education and assured of their support to the government’s quest for educational development.
She solicited the governor’s support for the process of integrating the core basic education subjects into the Almajiri Education Programme.
Ghaida said they were in Sokoto to discuss the Better Education Service Delivery for All Programme and requested the governor to appoint a focal person or coordinator for the project in the state.
She said the project focuses on 17 states with high number of out of school children, saying they had been collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Education and State Universal Basic Education Board for nine months.
Tambuwal thanked the Task Team for their partnership with the state, saying since the inception of his administration education had been accorded priority in collaboration with development partners.
Tambuwal told the delegation that recent UNICEF statistics indicated that fifty percent of out of school children in the state have returned to school. He assured that the remaining out of school children would be returned to schools to be better citizens.
He said that Government would collaborate with stake holders to explore the best way of integrating western education into the Almajiri Education program.
