Women group donates school to Jahi community

The Business and Professional Women in Nigeria (BPW) in collaboration with its international partner TZU-Xing on Monday performed a foundation laying ceremony for the establishment of a primary school at Jahi community, Abuja.
The project, which is estimated to cost $300,000 will accommodate pupils in primary one to six and nursery one to three, and will be accessed free of charge by natives while non-indigenes will pay a token.
Jahi is a community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) densely populated with different business activities but lacking basic infrastructural facilities.
An international development partner, Freda Miriklis, said they chose the community as the first to partake in the provision of schools for the less privileged communities in Africa, adding that they are building the school while the community will maintain it much later.
“Today is a historic day for this local community in which the TZU-Xiang foundation in collaboration with BPW is laying the foundation to establish a school for the community. We are providing the school to ensure that the children have solid foundation for their future and also to help the community. We chose Jahi due to the participation of our women within the community,” she said.
