Operatives of Ogun Police Command, yesterday, arrested a 45-year-old woman, Aderonke Ayinde, for allegedly trying to dump the corpse of her lover in the bush.
The arrest was said to have followed a report lodged at Oke-Itoku Police station by one Makinde Ishola. The complainant was said to have reported that the deceased, identified as Asimiu Abiodun, visited the suspect at her residence situated at No.1 Asalu Compound Abeokuta, but he died in the middle of the night “in a questionable circumstance.” He stated further that the suspect took the dead body of the deceased and dumped it in a nearby bush, not knowing that someone nearby was observing her.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said, “On interrogation, the suspect claimed that the deceased was her longtime lover who used to pass nights at her place. But on that fateful day, he came as usual, but suddenly developed a strange illness in the night and before she could call for help, the man gave up the ghost. She further stated that she decided to dispose the body out of fear.”
Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has however directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to take over the case for proper investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect.
