Winners of 10th Korea-Nigeria drawing competition emerge

The winners of the 10th edition of the Korea-Nigeria Drawing Competition were revealed during the awards ceremony, which took place at the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Amongst the 150 primary school pupils who participated, Ruwo Wodi of Science Primary School, Kwali, emerged first place in the competition, going home with a laptop.

The Director of the Korean Cultural Centre, Mr. Lee Jin Su, congratulated the winning students and expressed how impressed he was in the work produced by the students, and also recognized the potential of art in Nigeria.

“I feel Nigerians have an instinct for arts and I think Nigerians deserve to be respected on the global arts stage,” he said.

In the speech made by the Director, FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Dr. Adamu Jatau Noma, who was represented by the Director of Public/Private partnership of UBEB, Hajiya Habiba Aliyu Barau, expressed delight on the success of the competition over the past 10 years, and commended the theme for this year’s competition, “Freedom.”

“The Cultural Centre has a burning zeal to promote bilateral relations between Nigeria and Korea, and this was clearly shown in the theme of this year’s competition, ‘Freedom,’ in which our pupils did wonderfully well in drawing.

“We cannot underestimate the role of mutual understanding in the economic and social development of any country. This completion provides opportunity for cultural integration and understanding which is an integral part of international relations.”

Coming in third place was Habila Jehoshaphat of LEA Primary School, Peyi, winning a bluetooth speaker and in second place was Edache Damian of Smart Academy, Abuja, who won a DVD player.
