Why we are rejecting governorship election results – Useni

Sen. J. T. Useni clinches Plateau PDP ticket with 1,018 votes

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Plateau State, Senator Jeremiah T. Useni, has explained their rational for rejecting the governorship election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying they have evidence of gross irregularities.

INEC had, at the weekend, declared Governor Simon Bako Lalong of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the poll after it earlier announced the election was inconclusive, thus leading to a supplementary election.

But Useni said, at a press conference, that his party, the PDP and himself, have carefully considered the result and it is not acceptable to them.

“My team and I have gone through both the official results released by INEC and the documents submitted by our own field staff, and we have every reason to believe that justice has so far not been done to our people in this election, because of massive rigging and electoral shortcomings.

“After due consultation, I hereby state that the results announced by INEC are not acceptable to us. To take care of the perceived injustice. We have requested our legal team to activate all the due processes to reclaim our cherished mandate.

“We will pursue this matter diligently. Our restoration agenda is for the soul of Plateau State, until its glory is restored,” Useni said.
