‘Why Nigerian youths must take up governance role’

It is high time Nigerian youths took their destiny in their hands and participate in governance, the United Democratic Party (UDP) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Adetunji Oyabambi has observed.

He said youths have suffered greatly in the hands of elderly politicians and stressed the need for the youths to come together and fight to take their rightful place in governance.

Oyambami in a chat with Daily Trust YOUTHVILLE at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) on his way to the United States said Nigerian youths must be involved in politics to guarantee better future for their children and grand-children.

The US-based Nigerian from Ijagbo in Oyun Local Government Area of the state said he was excited at the array of youthful candidates showing interest in the 2019 elections.

He said, “When the youths are folding their hands, coming out now is like fighting for our kids or our grandkids so that they would not suffer. When I saw everybody coming out, I am impressed. Let us all come together, it is not a do-or-die affair, if one is coming out and his manifesto is good, let’s support him, let’s put him there”.

He said Nigerians need to put in place leadership that would be accessible to the people at all levels not bossy leaders.

Having a youthful leadership in place would bring about genuine youth empowerment and restore hope in the youth population, he said.

Oyambambi decried the high rate of unemployment and the seeming hopelessness among the youths.

He said Nigerians especially the youth must resist the temptation of money for vote as doing so would be tantamount to mortgaging their future.
