Why I was absent at Lalong’s re-election flag-off — Dalung

The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has cleared the air as to why he was absent at Friday’s re-election flag-off campaign of Plateau State Governor,  Simon Bako Lalong.

Dalung who had several confrontations with Lalong in the past was conspicuously absent at the flag-off which was graced by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole; the Director General of the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organization, Rotimi Amaechi; Sen. George Akume; Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika as well as former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Pauline Tallen.

The minister on Saturday wrote on his Facebook page that he was not invited to the event and therefore could not be there. Dalung said he only heard the news of the political event on January 3 at about 5.30 pm from a party stalwart and a senior citizen who was also not invited.

“Politics is all about relevance; you can only be invited to where you are relevant. To those who believe in me and expected me to be there should kindly forgive my absence because I was not invited,” he stated.

“Let me state clearly that I have always honoured any invitation from the state government but where there is no express invitation for any function, I cannot be more Catholic than the Pope,” he added.
