Why I killed my step-daughter – Suspect

The suspect

A 38-year-old housewife arrested by the police in Katsina State yesterday said she killed her 4-year-old step-daughter out of hatred.

The suspect, Aisha Abubakar of Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, Rimi LGA of Katsina State was arrested over the killing of the deceased, who was her namesake.

She told newsman during her parade at the state police command that her husband had once divorced her in the process of marrying Aisha’s mother.

She said the anger of that divorce and her subsequent return to the house forced her to do what she did.

The spokesman of police command, SP Gambo Isah said late Aisha was kept in the suspect’s care when she gave her a poisonous food which led to her death.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and later confirmed dead by the attending physician, he said.

“In the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. Her motive being a long standing hatred she has for the mother of the victim,” he added.

In a related development, Isah said, at about 23:00hrs, operatives attached to the Operations Puff Adder and Sharan Daji jointly responded to a distress call based on a report that some bandits had attacked Dan Ali village of Danmusa LGA of Katsina state and rustled 12 cattle belonging to one Amadu Mamman of the same address.

He said the teams swoop into action, and recovered all the stolen cattle, but the suspects took to their heels and escaped into the dark forest.

He added that the command in another development succeeded in arresting one Junaidu Lawal, 28, of Sabuwar Tasha Quarters, Katsina, Katsina State in possession of 61 pieces of N1000 notes and 26 pieces of N500 notes, ‘all reasonably suspected to be counterfeit.’

He said the suspect has confessed to the crime and is assisting the police in their investigations‎.
