The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Dr. Godwin I. Emefiele has given an insight into what will define his second term in office as CBN governor.

The Senate on Thursday confirmed Mr. Emefiele for a second term of five years as the CBN governor.

Mr. Emefiele who spoke to journalists at the weekend in Nsukka shortly after he delivered a special convocation lecture at the University of Nigeria (UNN) Nsukka, Enugu state, said he would focus on policies that would drive down inflation, improve price stability and drive economic growth.

He also said he would work with his team to drive down imports and encourage exports even he as he warned that those who deliberately set out to thwart policies meant for the national good will be dealt with.

Emefiele who was conferred with an Honourary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration at the conversation delivered a lecture entitled,”From recession to growth: the story of Nigeria’s recovery from 2016 economic recession.”

“Yes, we agreed that the growth numbers are good, we have checked inflation and brought inflation down. I think in this next phase, what can we do to consolidate our growth? How can we as monetary authority do something? Yes, we are talking about price stability, we must do something to improve growth,” he said.

“What did we do to bring inflation down? We must continue to do that. What did we do to reduce our imports? We will continue to do it,” he assured.
