Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has said his administration will boost golf in order to develop the tourism and other economic potentials of the state.
The Governor spoke at the Lamingo Golf course in Jos the Plateau State capital, during a golf tournament which was one of the events for the inauguration of the second term of his administration.
“Plateau State is known as the home of peace and tourism. There is no way one can boost tourism in the state without peace. That is why we are doing all we can to ensure peace reigns in the state.
“At one time peace almost eluded us, but all that has changed now and the peace has come back. The other aspect is the tourism. If we have the peace, we should add the tourism.
“That is what we are doing now, and in doing so, golf will be integrated into our programmes because many big business men and chief executives of big companies play golf.
“When rich men come to your state and want to invest, the first thing they ask is if there is a golf course in the state. If they are staying for more than a week, for instance, they will have to be playing golf and if a state does not have a golf course it discourages them and they won’t come and invest.
“So, we are going to take the advantage of our weather and natural endowment and develop golf in the state in order to boost tourism,” he said.
