Arewa Youth Enlightenment and Empowerment Initiative (AYEEI), a non-governmental organisation has said it seeks to enlighten and empower Nigerian women and youths to attain a society free of moral decadence.
The group’s spokesperson, Musaddiq Mustapha Adamu, and the National Secretary, Aisha Bashir Nadabo, told our reporter that the NGO had achieved so much since it started because of their selflessness.
“This has made things easier because there is no personal interest in it,” Adamu said.
Registered in 2010, with membership between the ages of 18 and 45, the organisation said it got funds amongst its members to carry out its projects. With five founding members, the organisation started like a discussion among friends online when Facebook started with the soleb aim of proffering solutions to societal ills in the North.
Although it said funding was its major challenge, the NGO is not deterred in achieving its current goal of enrolling 100 girls in primary schools in the 19 northern states by year end.
“Our aim is to impact. We have campaigned against drug and substance abuse. And most recently, we held a seminar and symposium on girl-child education.
“We all came together because we are passionate about seeing change in the country and not for politics because sometimes when you advocate, people think it is about politics. Just because you want your voice to be heard doesn’t mean you want to be political about it,” the group said.
