For the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to win the 2019 presidential election and snatch power from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), it must avoid choosing the wrong candidate and also allowing itself to be consumed in self-confidence, believing that it will clinch victory even when it has left many stones unturned.
This was the view expressed by the former National Chairman of the PDP and erstwhile Kaduna State Governor, who is now a presidential aspirant on the PDP platform, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Markafi when he addressed delegates in the Enugu State Chapter of the party at the party’s secretariat GRA, Enugu on Friday.
Senator Markafi, who said he was in the state to intimate the delegates of his intention to contest for the party’s presidential ticket in next year’s election, emphasized that it would be wrong of the party to give its presidential ticket to a candidate that could not be trusted with the hopes and expectations of millions of Nigerians.
He said “Where we’re making a choice, we must make a choice among those we know. We cannot afford to err; we make one mistake this time and we’re in for it. We must not assume that we can pick any candidate and make a mistake that we will live to regret.”
On why he is aspiring to be president, Markafi said: “The problem facing Nigeria is restructuring; we must restructure Nigeria. Restructuring is the policy of the PDP.“
Markafi, who described his visit to Enugu as a homecoming, having done his secondary school education at the Federal Government College, Enugu in the 1970s.
In his remark, the PDP state chairman, Mr. Augustine Nnamani said : “Markafi represents intelligence, energy, and super integrity.”
