Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has noted with concern that the rates of divorce had become a disturbing point of discussion in the society.
While speaking at a meeting of Islamic scholars organised by the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission in Sokoto, he noted that it was an effect of unlawful marriage expenses and stressed the need to check such extravagance.
He stressed “Our scholars need to generously inform the people on the effect of unlawful wedding and other ceremonial spending. This act generates nothing but confusion and unnecessary divorce which has become a serious point of discussion in the society.”
The royal father urged scholars to always fear God in all their actions and conducts. This he said would have a positive impact on the attitude of the society.
He also spoke on the need for the affluent in the society to always assist the less privileged, to lessen adversities among the people.
Chairman, Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission Malam Lawal Maidoki acknowledged the support of scholars to the success of all activities of the commission.
