Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah says the institution will begin railway technology and development programmes in Forensic Accounting and Forensic Science.

This is even as he said the varsity has received approval to begin new faculties in the institution, which are the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Prof Na’Allah, who stated this on Tuesday while speaking to journalists in Abuja, said they are partnering with a Chinese company on the railway technology and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on forensic science in collaboration with an India-based university to tackle the problem of crime in the country.

The Vice Chancellor also said they will soon make study of foreign languages mandatory for all students of the university.

“We must compete as a country and explore the advantages of the 21st century. The Senate will very soon approve this requirement that you cannot graduate from the institution if you have not passed one foreign language.

“We want to empower these young people to become global citizens. Alongside that is the strategy for our students to study abroad and anywhere – Japan, India, among others – to see what the world looks like,” he said.

He added that the university will soon embark on admission campaign to states that have very few number of students in the institution to ensure that every part of the country is fully represented in the school.

Prof. Na’Allah also revealed that 49 out of the 50 programmes being run by UniAbuja have been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other relevant bodies.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of UniAbuja School of Advanced and Basic Remedial Studies, Prof. Abdul Buba, said the university only secured approval from the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) to begin the sale of forms on the programme for the 2019/2020 session and disassociated the university from the admission offered into the programme in 2018.
