The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) TAP project has a target to train about 1.2 million youth on various entrepreneurial skills in Nigeria in the next 10 years.
It hopes to train 120,000 youths on the project per annum.
Speaking, yesterday, in Abuja when the UNESCO Read and Earn Federation and Association of Business Executives (UK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, President UNESCO Read and Earn Federation, Prince Abdulsalami Ladigbolu, said the objective of the synergy is to encourage entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths for job creation.
He said the MoU was also aimed at improving the standard of living and to dissuade the increasingly dangerous and illegal migration, forced labour, modern slavery and human trafficking faced by migrants searching for better opportunities outside Nigeria.
Ladigbolu said the Nigerian youths population boasts of some of the most original creatives in the world hence if given the right tools and environment they can compete at the highest level in various industries and exceed expectations.
He said the UNESCO Read and Earn Federation, found it paramount that meaningful enrichment and sustainable programmes should be put in place towards the renaissance of three identified critical areas among the youths which are intellectual capacity building, leadership and economic capacity building.
On his part, the Chief Executive, Association of Business Executives (UK), Robert May, said without promoting core essential business skills in its young entrepreneurs, countries run the risk of creating a long trail of micro-enterprises that have little impact on unemployment, exports, innovation or productivity.
