UKRAINE: Govt tasks Russia on Minsk agreements

President of Russia, Vladimir Putin

Ukraine has again called on the Russian Federation to fully implement its commitments under the Minsk agreements and withdraw its armed formations from temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The Minsk agreements call for the withdrawal of all foreign armed groups, weapons and mercenaries from Ukrainian territory, release of all hostages and other illegally detained people, among others.

The Ukrainian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Valerii Aleksandruk, told journalists in Abuja that under Russian occupation, Crimea has turned into a military stronghold threatening security and stability in the entire wider Black Sea region.

The envoy said Russian aggression in the occupied Crimea has internally displaced over 1.5 million people, while over 70 Ukrainian citizens remain political prisoners of Kremlin.

“The developments in Crimea prove that repressions and blatant violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the peninsula will continue until Russia reverses its illegal occupation,” Aleksandruk said.
