Ugandan varsity honours Nigerian Senator for commitment to education

The International Islamic University, Mbali, Uganda has honoured the Senator representing Sokoto Central, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for his commitment to education and service to humanity.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary was bestowed with the honour yesterday at 30th Anniversary and Convocation of the University which had graduated 25,000 students in the last 30 years, the Senator’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani disclosed in Sokoto on Sunday.

He added that the convocation ceremony which was held at Mbali city, 220 kilometres away from the Ugandan Capital, Kampala, was attended by several dignitaries from within and outside Uganda, including the Ugandan President, Mr Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Edward Ssenkandi.

“The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Dr Ahmad Kawesa Ssengendo appreciated the sustained support of Senator Wamakko to it, alongside other notable individuals and some countries, globally,” Mani stated.

He added that Dr Ssengendo attributed the myriad of tangible achievements recorded by the University to such invaluable steady support and cooperation.

According to the media aide, Senator Wamakko lauded the gesture of the University and pledged to do more to ensure that youths, women and other vulnerable groups continue to acquire education, at all levels.

“The Marafan Hausa further described education as the only panacea to majority of the problems plaguing societies, across the world,” he stated.

He said Wamakko reiterated the commitment of the National Assembly, to ensure the adequate funding of education, at all levels.
