Sokoto state police command has arrested a syndicate who specialize in forging the National Identity card and different kinds of certificates.
Briefing journalists in Sokoto Friday , Police Public Relations Officer Sokoto Command, ASP Cordelia Nwawe disclosed that operatives of State Investigation Department arrested five suspects in connection with conspiracy, abetment and forgery.
They included two staff of Fidelity Bank, Perez Percy and Mudassiru Taofeeq , business centre owner Abdussamad Lawal and two of his assistants Shitu Isiaka and Priscilla Kuhwa.
The suspects and items recovered such as ID cards, certificates, laptops, desktops, photocopying machines among others were paraded at the command headquarters Friday.
Nwewe said the suspects had been in the illicit business for five years.
She explained that when people go the bank to open account, the suspects tell them they prefer National Identity card and that it can be done be done under one week.
The PPRO said investigation led to a business centre around Bodinga area of the state where they specialize in the illegitimate activities and collect N4,000 from unsuspecting victims.
The PPRO said five suspects Mohammed Zarno, Usman Abdullahi, Mohammed Bello, Audu Gamde
Kwai and Abdullahi Abubakar were also arrested for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery while another gang that specialize in snatching of motorcycle was nabbed too.
According to her, when investigations are completed the suspects would be taken to court.
