TUC, NLC to end strikes in 2014

President of TUC, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama made this revelation in a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
Comrade Kaigama said the nation’s two labour umbrella bodies are collaborating to curb incessant strikes among their affiliates.
He assured Nigerians and the government that the incessant industrial actions witnessed during the year would be curbed as from next year.
While explaining that as trade union leaders, they consider strike as the last resort in industrial disputes, he added, “we are going to do our best to see how we will resolve issues before it degenerated into industrial strikes.”
He regretted the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), but assured Nigerians that while the strike would be called off this week, Nigerians would not witness such again.
Also on the threat by PENGASSAN to embark on strike this yuletide, Kaigama said it was a way of showing their grievances. He however assured that the dispute will be resolved amicably such that there will be no scarcity of petroleum products during the period.
On the proposed National Conference, Kaigama described it as a step in the right direction. He pointed out that the outcome should go to the National Assembly to ratify rather than subjecting it to a referendum.
“Indeed, there is need for the people to dialogue and agree on the terms to boost the country’s unity and address her myriad of problems. Nigeria is one country inspite of its varying cultures, religion and ethnic nationalities, and we can only succeed as a nation if we stay united,” he said.
