Suspected thugs Tuesday killed a supporter of the People’s Democratic Party in Sokoto State, Abu Kalhu.
Witnesses said the thugs, numbering 40, invaded his residence at Kofar Kade in two Hilux vehicles around 9pm. He said to have been taken outside and stabbed to death.
“They were formerly his boys before he left for PDP. We are suspecting some influential politicians are behind the attack because they had tried to lure him into joining their party, but he refused,” a friend of the deceased told Daily Trust.
A relative of the deceased, said to have been injured, is said to be undergoing treatment in a hospital.
The PDP, in a statement by its spokesman in the state, Abdullahi Hausawa, condenmed the attack and called on the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
He called on their members to remain calm and peaceful, saying Sokoto is known as a home of peace.
When contacted, the spokesman of APC in the state, Bello Yusuf Danchadi, said the party was not involved in the attack.
The Public Relation Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Cordelia Nwewe, could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.
