Thugs disrupt PDP campaign in Nembe, as party supporters scamper for safety

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial campaign rally in Nembe Ogbolomabiri in Bayelsa state has been disrupted by political thugs who fired gunshots on the party’s supporters.

There were heavy shots by the armed thugs who invaded the King Koko Square, venue of the PDP governorship campaign, on Wednesday as party supporters were waiting for dignitaries to arrive.

Some journalists covering the rally were also caught in the ensuing confusion as many sustained varying degree of injuries.

Bayelsa governor, Seriake Dickson, was billed to attend the rally in company of the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Douye Diri.

Some party faithful ran into nearby creeks for safety, as security operatives tried to restore normalcy to the area.

As at the time of filing the report, it was learnt that Governor Dickson was on his way to the area to continue with the rally.

When contacted, the Police spokesman in Bayelsa state, Asinim Butswat, didn’t pick or return calls put across to him by our reporter.
