Three persons lost their lives, while 22 passengers sustained injuries in separate auto crashes that occurred on Sunday evening on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
A witness said the first crash happened on Abaji bridge at about 4:20pm and involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number GME 628 XX and a Daf trailer with registration number FKY 108 YF.
He said the bus driver, who was allegedly speeding, overtook another vehicle and rammed into the back of the trailer, resulting in the death of two persons while 15 passengers sustained injuries.
He said men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) came to the scene and evacuated the two corpses and injured passengers to hospital.
When contacted, the Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident, which he attributed to speed limit violation and dangerous overtaking.
He said the two corpses had been handed over to relatives for burial, while the 15 injured persons were taken to Abaji General Hospital for treatment.
Similarly, one person has died while seven passengers sustained injuries in another crash on the same day near Kamadi junction on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
The Yangoji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Sambgaza James, who disclosed this to our reporter, yesterday, said it happened around 7:45pm and involved a Toyota Sienna with registration number EJG 52 AA and a Daf truck without number plate.
He attributed the accident to wrongful overtaking, saying the corpse had been deposited at Kwali General Hospital while the injured victims were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
