The PDP secretariat located along Gbongon/Ibadan road which also doubles as the campaign office of President Goodluck Jonathan in the state was marked for demolition by the state government recently.
When a bulldozer arrived at the PDP secretariat to carry out the demolition, PDP supporters thronged out in large numbers to protect the party secretariat which almost resulted into a clash between PDP supporters and supporters of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) who also insisted that the demolition must be carried out.
The state government had commenced the demolition of structures in the area on Friday as part of its urban renewal programme. On the same road, part of the campaign office of Governor Rauf Aregbesola was also demolished while fences of major banks, shops and other structures were also pulled down.
Chairman of PDP in the state Alhaji Ganiyu Ola-Oluwa while addressing a press conference on the matter yesterday said Osun PDP would not allow officials of the Osun State Capital Development Authority to destroy its secretariat without following due process.
Ola-Oluwa noted that the state government did not deem it fit to write PDP on the plan to demolish a portion of its secretariat and insisted he has not received any notice from either the state government or any other authority concerned with the exercise.
The Osun PDP boss said the action of the state government to demolish the party secretariat was an act of wickedness aimed at destroying property of opposition parties in the state.
Olaoluwa insisted that the party secretariat is located close to a federal road saying the party would only allow the property to be demolished if it receives notice for demolition from the federal Ministry of Works as he maintained that the state government lacks the right to demolish property on federal roads.
But in a swift reaction, the director of publicity, research and strategy of ACN, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi said Aregbesola is only trying to ensure that Osogbo becomes a befitting state capital.
