Tomorrow is the last day for political parties to submit names of their governorship and state assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This came amidst confusion in states like Zamfara where INEC has disqualified the ruling APC from fielding candidates for all elections as well as Imo and Ogun where Governors Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun were battling to have the gubernatorial tickets for their preferred successors.
INEC had in its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2019 general elections, which was released earlier this year, fixed November 2 as the last day for all political parties participating in the election to summit Forms CF001 and CF002 at the electoral empire’s headquarters in Abuja.
At least 79 political parties submitted names of their presidential and National Assembly candidates to INEC on Oct. 18, while particulars of the candidates which included their age, state of origin, academic qualifications and issues relating to taxes were pasted at INEC headquarters and state and district offices on Oct. 25.
Particulars of governorship and House of Assembly candidates would also be published on Nov. 9. This is in line with Section 31(1) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) which provided that this must be done not later than 60 days before the election.
Dozens of political parties were expected to field gubernatorial candidates in 29 states of the federation.
There would be no gubernatorial election in Bayelsa, Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Kogi, Ekiti and Osun during the general elections.
