Students going to China not ministers’ children – VC

The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, yesterday dispelled rumours being circulated in the social media that the 45 students of the institution recently selected for study in China were ministers’ children.

The students, who are in 300 Level, are going to Central South University Changsha, China for a joint Bachelor’s Degree in engineering programmes and will be departing Nigeria on Monday.

At a farewell reception, Professor Garba said there was no discrimination in the selection process, noting that all the beneficiaries were chosen on merit.

Professor Garba said of the 45 students, 30 are being sponsored for the programmes by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation  (CCECC) and the others financed by Central South University Changsha, China.
