Student killed in Niger cattle rustle

Suspected cattle rustlers killed a senior secondary school student in a midnight attack in Nigeria, Daily Trust has learnt.

The 19-year-old student, whose name could not be immediately ascertained, was killed in Angwa Umadi Village in Shiroro local government area of the state Saturday night.

The deceased was said to have been shot at close range when he went out to ease himself unsuspecting that danger was lurking around.

Fleeing villagers said 15 people were injured in the attack which lasted for about an hour and were receiving medical attention at a dispensary in nearby Erena town.

One of the villagers, Isaiah Baga, said 212 cattle were rustled, while  seven motorcycles were taken away by the marauders.

Niger state police command public relation officer, DSP Bala Elkana confirmed the attack and the death of the student.

He said undisclosed number of cows and livestock were rustled by the bandits.

DSP Elkana however said anti-cattle rustling unit of the command was on the trail of the fleeing rustlers.
