The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman, has advocated for skill upgrades for young entrepreneurs as a key strategy of engendering entrepreneurial revolution in the country. Suleiman spoke alongside a panel of prominent entrepreneurs at the 2018 Friends for Islamic Development (FID) Network Hub with the theme ‘Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Islam’ held in Lagos.
According to the Sterling Bank MD, whereas there are a number of factors an entrepreneur must put into consideration while considering and operating his or her business, the need to stick to what is known and having requisite knowledge as well as embarking on training and re-training are key for successful business operations.
“The rule for me is: choose a business you understand. And ensure that you engage in skill upgrade from time to time as events unfold with lots of dynamism in modern business environment. In today’s businesses, knowledge and skill upgrades are very essential. And you will be surprised that a lot of what is required of is available even in the handheld phones we move around with,” he said.
