Soyinka made his views known at a press briefing he addressed in Lagos on Tuesday.

The elderstatesman, who applauded state governments that have taken steps in regulating open grazing in their states, also said establishment of state police will go a long in stemming the tide of incessant clashes between herders and farmers.

He however berated President Muhammadu Buhari’s handling of the sensitive matters of state, saying if he has the chance of meeting the president today, he will not hesitate to tell him that he is under a trance and the sooner he gets out of it, the better.

“I would say: Mr President, I think you are under a trance. The sooner he gets out of it, the better. So many unforced errors are going on,” the Nobel Laureate said.

But when the octogenarian was asked to state the kind of trance the president is under, he said: “I don’t know. So many unforced errors, take for instance, the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, reinstated by the President. What is that about? What is going on?”
