Stakeholders tasked on MSMEs for industrial growth

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have been described as the hub of industrial development in any country and should be maximally exploited by government, private and other stakeholders for national development.

The Director, Commodities and Products Inspectorate at the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment Mr. O.B. Ope-Ewe, at the SMS Forum/Talkshop themed “The ease of the doing business” organized by the Grassroots Entrepreneurs For Community Development In Nigeria (GECEN), a non-governmental organization, in Abuja.

He said to achieve a robust economic development, it needed a competitive business environment where costs are low, registration streamlined, reliable infrastructure and government bureaucracy minimized.

The Director-General, SMEDAN, Dr Dikko Umaru Radda, said his agency was established to facilitate the emergence of structured and efficient micro, small and medium enterprises sub-sector that will enhance sustainable economic development in the country.

The National President of GECEN, Mohammed Jamu, told participants that the challenges entrepreneurs face in the area of doing business included multiple taxation, electricity challenge and access to finance.
