Soldier dies of Lassa Fever

A soldier attached to 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, has died of Lassa Fever.

The soldier was said to have died Tuesday at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital (Jankwano) in Jos four days after his case was reported.

Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Major Ikechukwu Eze, disclosed this in a statement yesterday,

He said the male senior non-commissioned officer of the division had earlier been admitted at the division’s hospital and was being managed for resistant malaria after returning from Kogi State where he had gone for his father’s burial.

“Noticing there was no significant improvement, the soldier had been referred to Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos for further management, but the soldier had died on Tuesday.

“Available medical information confirmed that the soldier may have died of Lassa fever,” Eze stated.

He said investigation was ongoing to unravel all circumstances that led to the soldier’s death.
