Shiites march for Zakzaky’s release

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) on Thursday marched round Abuja to protest the Federal Government’s continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.

IMN declared this through its spokesman, Sheikh Abdullahi Bello Zaria after a peaceful march in remembrance of the two years of the attack at the sect’s centre in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The sect bemoaned the disobedience of the order of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which in December 2016 ordered Zakzaky’s release from detention and to be provided with accommodation in any part of the North.

“It is on record that a government kangaroo panel, KDSG-JCI, indicted top hierarchy of the Army, saying they “should be brought to trial before a court of competent jurisdiction,” but to date not a single army officer is in custody awaiting trial for the ignorable role they played in Zaria; instead they have all been rewarded with promotions and all the paraphernalia that goes with their offices,” he said.

“Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, whom they shot several times at close range are still languishing in detention, denied their right to seek medical attention to the gunshots wounds they sustained during the Army’s killing spree,” he added.
