Shekau on the run, dressed as a woman – Army

The Nigerian Army yesterday said leader of the Boko Haram terrorists group, Abubakar Shekau is on the run dressed as a woman wearing hijab.

In a statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, the army said as a means to avoid detection, Shekau alternates between a blue or black coloured hijab.

Usman said reliable information from insurgents that surrendered revealed that Shekau was last seen in a black hijab.

He said the development was due to efforts of troops of ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ on the ongoing clearance of Boko Haram terrorists through ‘Operation Deep Punch II.’

Usman said the exercise was yielding results as troops have successfully been clearing Boko Haram camps in Sambisa forest including Camp Zairo.

He also called on the remaining Boko Haram terrorists to know that they were following a ‘coward’ moving about in hijab disguised as a woman.

He then urged all the remaining Boko Haram members to come out from hiding and lay down their arms so that they may be treated humanely.

“While concerted efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fugitive terrorist leader, we implore also members of the public, especially the residents of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states to be more vigilant, security conscious and be on the lookout of Abubakar Shekau and other terrorists that might disguise as women to escape,” Usman said.
