Shekarau resumes as Daily Trust GM business

Media Trust Limited’s new General Manager in charge of Business Development and Strategy, Ahmed Ibrahim Shekarau, has resumed office.

Shekarau was appointed by the Board of Directors of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust and Aminiya newspapers.

In this position, he will oversee the advertisements, sales, commercial printing, conferences and events, brand marketing, as well as quality control and research units of the company.

He will also provide support to the CEO/Editor-in-Chief in developing and launching initiatives geared towards opening new marketing opportunities for the firm.

Shekarau joined the company from Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) where he was Head of Media Relations.

He brings a wealth of experience in both Journalism and Corporate Communications to his current role in the organisation.

A consummate journalist with a knack for business and economy reporting, he reached the zenith of his career in journalism in 2005 when he was appointed pioneer Editor, Sunday Trust (now Daily Trust on Sunday).

He subsequently performed another pioneering role in the take-off of the daily title of Peoples Daily, a publication of Peoples Media Limited in 2009.

As Editor, he was part of the management team of Peoples Media Limited, in addition to providing strategic leadership to the editorial team of the newspaper.

Before he became editor of Peoples Daily, Shekarau was Head of External Communications in the Corporate Affairs Department of Unity Bank Plc. He was also a pioneer staff of Northern Region of the Corporate Affairs Department of the erstwhile Oceanic Bank Plc, between 2007 and 2009.

Shekarau, who had a greater part of his working career in the media industry, was also at different times Group Business Editor, Daily Trust and Weekly Trust; Group Politics Editor, Daily Trust and Weekly Trust; and also, Business Editor, Daily Trust, between 2001 and 2005.

Shekarau obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri, and has completed his course work for the award of a Master’s Degree in Media Arts in the University of Abuja.

He is a member of several professional bodies, which include the Advertising Practitioners’ Council of Nigeria (APCON), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), where he was Vice President (North) from 2010 to 2012; and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

Commenting on the appointment, CEO of Daily Trust, Malam Mannir Dan-Ali described him as “a perfect fit for a challenging job.”

Dan-Ali said Shekarau’s experience at different ends of the media industry and the team he will work with will make it possible for him to succeed.
