The Senate and the House of Representatives yesterday received the report of the 2019 budget estimates from their respective committees on Appropriation.
In the Senate, the budget report was initially billed to be laid on the floor of the red chamber last Thursday, but that did not happen as some of committees did not conclude work on their reports.
Also, Senate President Bukola Saraki two weeks ago promised that the budget would be passed on April 16, which was last Tuesday. That too did not happen.
But at yesterday’s plenary, the chairman of the Appropriation Committee Sen Mohammed Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe), laid the report at 3:30.pm.
Though it was thought that the budget would be considered at the same time, the Senate adjourned plenary to next Wednesday without passing it.
Senate President Bukola Saraki announced that the Senate would adjourn plenary to next Wednesday, April 24.
The break is to mark the Easter celebration.
The House Committee on Appropriations also laid the report of the 2019 budget before the House plenary, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun (APC, Osun).
The document tagged ‘Report of the 2019 Appropriation Bill,’ was laid before the lawmakers by the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Mustapha Dawaki (APC, Kano), for next legislative action.
Although Dawaki did not give details of the report, Daily Trust gathered that the bill will now be considered at the Committee of Supply at the resumption of plenary after the Easter break.
Presiding Deputy Speaker, Lasun, thanked the lawmakers for their steadfastness during the budget consideration at the various Committees.
After yesterday’s plenary, however, the lawmakers proceeded on Easter recess to resume on Tuesday, 23 April 2019.
