Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central, may lose a return ticket to the Senate on the platform of APC, with sources saying his moves to have the presidency intercede on his behalf have failed.
Senator Sani had not been on the same page with Governor Nasir El-rufai, with sources saying the indirect primary election option adopted by the Kaduna State chapter of the APC, it would be difficult for those who were “outside the circle” to make any headway in their political aspiration.
To this effect, it was gathered that ahead of the APC senatorial primaries approaching, Sen. Sani had pleaded with two governors, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano and Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina, to approach President Muhammadu Buhari on his behalf.
However, it was gathered that the move, just like previous ones, failed, as nobody in the presidency would want to meddle into matters in states so as not to take side.
But Sen. Sani had refuted the claim, saying it was not true. “Fake story, ignore it,” he said in a text message when asked to comment on the development.
It was learnt that the senator had in the past sent the likes of Sen. Aliyu Wamakko to talk to the president on his behalf.
The Kaduna State government and the state chapter of the party believed Sen. Sani had gone too far in his opposition to both Buhari and Gov. El-rufai of Kaduna, including the role he played in denying the state government a foreign loan of $350m as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Loans.
Another chieftain of the party recalled how the senator printed posters without the APC logo and even boasted that he would defect, saying such a person should not be taken seriously.
“He has not even tried to mend fences with the people he most offended in Kaduna. The party in Kaduna is said to be in no mood to reward disloyalty, after Shehu Sani had treated them with contempt for more than three years,” he said.
