The Senate on Tuesday passed a bill for fresh amendments to the Electoral Act, 2010.
The fresh amendment followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s rejection of two earlier bills passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.
The Senate, while adopting the report of its committee on INEC, chaired by Sen Suleiman Nazif Gamawa (PDP, Bauchi), said the amendment was to take care of the observations made by the president.
The Senate is expected to send the bill, which was passed for third reading, to the House of Representatives for concurrence.
After the passage, Senate President Bukola Saraki commended his colleagues for their determination to the passage of the amendment before elections.
Saraki also assured that the Senate would immediately transmit the passed bill to the House of Reps, calling on President Buhari to sign it into law when it is eventually transmitted to him.
